Vikings Battle for Asgard written review
This review is in the form of an essay. I don’t plan on making a video review for this.
Viking Battle for Asgard has everything, an open world, beutifull graphics, a compelling plotline, great controls, gore, gore and more gore! Too bad Viking Battle for Asgard had none of that when it came out!
I remember when I was browsing games looking for cheap thrills. I found a game for only 20$ (US) and high reviews. The game looked great, I was at a rental store contiplating over Soldier of Fortune: Payback (360) or Viking Battle for Asgard. I had already played Soldier of Fortune and enjoyed it. But I decided Viking Battle for Asgard. This was a terrible mistake.
Gameplay: Viking Battle of Asgar plays like a hack’n slash brawler. Like Ninja Gaiden, God of War, or perhaps Heavenly Sword. Unfortuntley the controls are heavy and impossibel to use, especially when you fight onslaughts of enemies that will chase you forever and can only be killed one at a time. The game also had some role-playing elements to it. You could speak with allies at your camps, sadly people’s mouths don’t move and the voice acting is terrible. You are given an open world to explore. But you have to unlock new parts of the open world and you can’t swim, the open world is a series of islands, and you can’t swim! Also, you can find captured friends in enemy camps and rescue them so they will fight with you. This is the one thing I like about Viking Battle for Asgard. But it is hard to live long enough to get to those captured units. But it is usually rewarding when you get friends.
Graphics: The game actually looks pretty nice, the lighting was very impressive and there were some cool forests and beaches to explore. Althought tha character models are reppetetive and poorly designed. People and orcs look more like McDonalds action figures. Oh bye the way, all that gore they promised, is there, but bodies dissapear the second they hit the ground.
Plot: A typical Human vs Orc plot. But even for this, I had no idea what was going on! There was an opeing cutscene, but it doesn’t say much at all! Atmosphere lacks but origonality is present. It seemed like a strategy game in the form of a third person adventure brawler.
Sound: Voice acting is really bad, the casting doesn’t match the characters and the voice actors clearly did not take it seriously, no change in voice level or clearity when speaking! Compared to the voice acting in a similar game like Dante’s Inferno or God of War, Viking Battle for Asgard just doesn’t make it.
Overall: Viking Battle for Asgard is highly reviewed, but I really didn’t like this game. The developers promised alot, very little of what they promised was actually in the game. I do not see how anyone could enjoy this game. The poor plotline, difficult gameplay terrible controls are only the worst of this game. Viking Battle for Asgard is a rental at best! I would recommed purchaseing Ninja Gaiden, God of War or really anything other than this game. If you want a good brawler game, this is not the one. There are some great ideas, no doubt, but the game just doesn’t take advantage of them. Hopefully there will be a better sequal, like Just Cause and Just Cause 2. Just Cause was terrible, it had problems, the developers had alot of good ideas, but they didn’t play out. In Just Cause 2, the same ideas were there, but the game was so much more fun! Hopefully Vikings Battle for Asgard 2 (if there is a sequal) will fix the many problems Viking Battle for Asgard had!
