Splinter Cell Conviction written review

This written review is in the form of an essay. I suggest checking for updates on my youtube channel, I plan to put up some type of video review.

Splinter Cell Conviction is the latest installment in the Splinter Cell series. It has been in the making for more than two years. The game has also been delayed from it’s 2009 realese to it’s 2010 realese. The game plays like no other Splinter Cell game, it plays like no other espionage game! This is a brutal mix of shooting action, and strategic stealth combat. Many would compare this to a movie, Taken, I have not seen it but it is about a retierd secret agent who’s daughter is kidnapped and sold into slavery. I would compare Splinter Cell Conviction to the Uncharted series. It is a highly reviewed third person adventure game on the Playstaion 3. Splinter Cell Conviction is on the Xbox 360 exclusivley, Uncharted is on the Playstation 3 only.

Graphics: Conviction (Splinter Cell Conviction) runs on an old version of the Unreal engine. It isĀ  widly used engine, games like Stranglehold, Blacksite Area 51 and Wolfenstien (2009) all run on the Unreal engine. Although Conviciton’s cutscenes look very nice. The gameplay, doesn’t look as nice. Of course, it’s still good, just not as clear or real-looking as something like Batman Arkham Asylum or Call of Duty Modern Warfare.

Gameplay : The game is both smart and brutal. I just loved throughing an enemy out a window or onto a tale covered in clutter. The shooting gameplay is also great. It plays like uncharted, you can take cover, shoot from cover, and you can pick up dead enemies weapons. I also liked how you can take cover, hide in the darkness, and truly flank your enemy. A white sillouhte will mark were your enemies think you are, this is a brand new feature in Splinter Cell. The mark and exceute mechanic is also new. It is like the takedowns from The Bourne Conspiracy. When you get melee kills, you can mark targets, by pressing the right bumper, and excecute by pressing the Y button, were you kill any enemies you marked in one swift move. I also like the rutal interegation scenes. You will have an enemie in your hands, you must bash him/her into whatever you can get. Anything from the famous bathroom interregation scene shown at E3 2008/2009 or the ones in the CO-OP campaign, that’s right, multiplayer. In fact, in the CO-OP campaign, there is a part where you can burn a guys face on a stove and the bash his head into a freezer! The Multiplayer is defintley a great addtion, there is a second campaign for multiplayer only. You and a friend can play thorugh it, or play in competetive games that involve fighting enemies and the other player. One other thing I like about Conviciton is that there are so many different character models. Like in-game characters, enemies, civillians, etc.

Sound: Michael Ironside (Terminator Salvation) is the voice of Sam Fisher. Michael does a great job, again. The sound effects like bullets, backround voice-acting, explosians, etc. are all great. It is clear Ubisoft put effort into the sound effects.

Plot: While Convictions plot in not to origonal, I was never bored by it. I was fairly compelled to see what happend at the end. The interregation scenes help explain what is going on.

Overall: Conviction is amazing, I enjoyed every second of this game, I still am! Convictions gameplay really let’s you feel like the ultimante preadetor, you feel like you really are unstoppable! This is one of, if not the best game of 2010 so far!
