Banned games

In case you haven’t heard, games have been getting banned in not just countries but zip codes. The upcoming Medal of Honor title has you in the boots of Tier 1 against Taliban. During multilayer, you can play as Taliban and fight American soldiers. This game has been banned in military areas and in military bases, it is considered insensitive to Americans that are fighting against Taliban, Al Queda, etc. I think that this is fine so long as it does not promote terrorism. We have to remember freedom of speech, it works both ways. Violent video games can be made with all of this bad content and people can rant about it as much as they want.

The recent realese of Dead Rising 2 has been banned in Saudi Arabia. The reason behind banning the game is becuase of the violence, sexual themes and gambling. This is now on the long list of games banned in Saudi Arabia, others games include Mass Effect 2 for violence and sexual content, Red Dead Redemption for violence, nudity, alcohol use, Mafia 2 for violence and nudity, Dragon Age Origins for violence and sexual content. Those are only some of the games. I personally think Dead Rising isn’t that bad, it is very “arcadish” and stylized. A more realistic zombie game would be a problem.

Also the infamous A-rated game. Even the biggest gore fans think-twice about buying an A-rated game. The ESRB has given about 27+ games since 2007 an A-rating. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have restricted A-rated games from being released on their consoles. These games are usually online games or realesed on PC’s and/or MACs. These games are usually extremely violent games with no puropse besides pure, realestic violence or they are pornographic. These games I do not believe are to be realesed to the public, if someone would go throught the long and complex process to get their hands on an A-rated game, they are probaly messed up. Even harcore collectors (like myself) fear them.
